Blockers are the most common element and main obstacle in Candy Crush Friends Saga. It prevents a player from accomplishing a level goal. They can take on one or more of the following functions:
- Prevent a player from accessing or using candies (i.e. locks)
- Prevent candies from taking up a space unless cleared (i.e. caramel cups)
- Prevent a special candy from performing their normal function (i.e. swirls, hazenut crunch)
- Prevent level objective from being completed (marmalade in jam levels, heart lock in heart levels, cookie cups in cookie levels, and so on)
- Explode after cleared (i.e. fizz, blue fizz, raspberry twister cake)
Typically, most of the blockers take up a square (except raspberry twister cake and octosmash, which occupy four). Blockers threaten the combination of candies and can often be very annoying. There are various blockers throughout the game. Every blocker has unique properties, such as poprocks being able to clear a layer near the other cakes and liquorice swirls being resistant to specials. Some blockers are harder to remove than others, immune to most effects, or even permanent throughout the level.
Blockers are the main obstacles of the board, so it's advisable to clear them as quickly as possible. Unlike Candy Crush Saga, due to no order levels, it is not necessary to clear all blockers but still may have to clear all blockers in most levels. Near every level has at least one type of blocker. Levels can have up to five to ten different types of blockers, or even more.
Despite some blockers being pests, some are useful. For example:
- Empty fish release 4 fishs after clearing.
- Chocolate eggs add 5 moves after clearing.
- Fizz, blue fizz, octosmash, strawberry twist and raspberry twister cake explode after clearing.
